Angela Ives
Dreams

I am a loyal hound
Who loves his master well.
I sit at his feet
And on sad things I do not dwell.

I am fed the finest venison,
Pork, and roasted duck.
And as far as masters go
I know I have the best of luck.

But sometimes in the night,
When I lay near my master’s bed,
I see the light of the moon
And for a time, my life I dread.

As I hear my brother’s howl
As they signal for the hunt,
And I want to leave my master,
But I could never do such a crazy stunt.

Yet at times I wonder
What would have happened to me
Had I run to the forest
And been wild and free.
